It is my goal to not only inspect the house but to provide you with an education regarding the home's construction, maintenance needs and systems operation. All homes require maintenance and deferred maintenance can turn small repairs into larger problems with larger expenses. That being said, everything can be repaired. I am not here to scare you, but to offer an unbiased professional opinion regarding the condition of the home and inform you of any issues or concerns that I observe during the inspection. The information I provide allows you the confidence to make informed decisions regarding the home. I then provide a full narrative report of my findings; typically within 24 hours. I am also available for questions at any point, even years down the road; so feel free to “pick my brain”. Remember, knowledge is power.
I am Brett W. Cortez, owner and operator of Academy Home Inspections, LLC. I have been involved in the construction industry since 1976. In that time, I have been a carpenter, owner of a large landscaping company, job superintendent with direct supervision of 150 journeymen and apprentices, home builder, Architectural CAD designer and owner of a design/build contracting firm specializing in both residential and commercial new construction, as well as renovations. Over the years, I have inspected hundreds of properties and that experience, coupled with over 40 years of direct involvement in the construction industry, allows me to bring a unique perspective to your home inspection. I may not have seen it all, but I have seen a lot more than most. My extensive background gives me the experience to know what to look for and where to look in order to ascertain as much about your prospective property as I can. I am professionally licensed in Massachusetts and hold Home Inspector license number 745. I am also an active member in good standing of ASHI (the American Society of Home Inspectors) on both the National and New England Chapter levels, holding membership number 252416.
Based in Newton, Massachusetts, I cover all of Massachusetts with a concentration in the Greater Boston and Metro West areas. I provide inspections on all types of residences, as well as small commercial properties.
